Hi all,
I have a need to create a file on a Windows Server filesystem (please assume I have all the required permissions to do this).
My Apex is privately hosted on an IX box (Rackspace provide this to me) and I have a fully routed VPN connection between both environments.
What I need to do is send data like a TEXT file of some field values in the Oracle database. The receiving file location is polled by an integration with some labelling software.
I do not want to have to retrieve files from the IX filesystem with FTP Etc. I want to write to something like \\servername\sharefolder\filename.txt
Is this even possible?
Many thanks as always.

If you want to write a file on a server, then you can create an Oracle Directory object for a UNC path and can create a file using UTL_FILE. I think that you already know.
Or you want to create a file on the local computer where the end-user is working on Apex app?

Vinish,
Thanks for the answer, I have asked our UX/DBA guys to get UTL_FILE set up, I dont think I have permissions to do that. Actually, even if I have permission - I dont really know what I am doing - so best left to experts 🙂
On a personal note I hope that you, your family and everyone you love are able to stay safe in these terrible times. I beleive it was only a matter of time until the situation that is unfolding in the Sub Continent now took hold. I hope that whatever the world can do to help India and all less fortunate Countries is done and done soon. COVID is a world problem. That is what Pandemic means. We must stop politics and business from getting in the way.
Be Careful, get vaccinated if you can, when you can.

Hi George,
Yes, that is good to get it set up through the DBAs.
And thank you very much for asking about my & my family's wellness 🙂. We are all good. You also take care. I didn't get the vaccination yet, but I will get it soon.
Thank you once again.
